The Senate adopted' resolutions expressing indignation at the baseless charges against the army in South Africa and their Teadiness to give all requisite aid to the Empire. This statement was greeted with cheers excepting by Mr McGregor, ci South Australia, who protested against a continuance of the war. All the speeches ■were strongly patriotic. Subsequently Mr Pearce, Western Australia, presented a petition praying that the Australian contngents in South Africa s&ould be withdrawn.
