Telegraph communication is greatly disorganised by the stoim and much damage lias been drne. houses were unroofed in the country. The Melbourne express met the full force of the gale and at one part of the journey t:> Svdney an extra engine iad to be attached to* enable the express to make headway. During the height of the gale the tug Reckless" was being towed t.vGeelong. Two rheu. some .women, and several children were on board. The vessel broke adrift and raa on to the rocks near Frankston. A scratch crew of fishermen in the face of the heavy sea. and at great risk rescued the people from their-position. Received 11.4 a.m.. January 24th. ADELAIDE. January 24. A'Tivicg vessels bear evidence of the the gale. The s.s. Ormuz had three beats smashed, her fittings badly damaged, and her decks completely swept by tlTe sea.-. The captain estimates that the wind was blowing at the rate of 100 mile 3 per hour. The yacht 'Alfreda was wrecked at Brighton. Received 1.21 a.m.. January 25th. BRISBANE, January Fine rains have fallen in the central division, and floods are reported in various directions. »
