GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The statutory meeting of ratepayers of the Gferaldiiie Roswi Board dis-' trict was held yesterday at noon, when, all the!members.of the Board were present,' and. several ratepayers. Mr J, Kelland occupied the chair, and read the annual report and balance sheet, which showed that the Board commenced the year with a credit balnce of £2370 5s lOd, and there had been received from all sources during the year the sum of £2724 0s 3d. The total amount expended for all purposes, including harbour rate and charitable aid, was £2515 18s 6d, leaving a credit balance on Marchi 31st of £2582 163 4d Twenty contracts had been let, and completed during the year, 80 chains of new formation and about 6200 yards of shingling on roada. The roads in the district were in fair order, but some of the main roads showed signs of .weakness, owing to the increase of heavy traffic. Considerable repairs had been effected to bridges. Heavy floods had upset river courses, which will take time to put right, and will b« costly work. The small birds nuisance did not seem to diminish, although tha Board had spent £ll7 8s lid in the destruction of the pest. The Board had purchased a second horse, and effectual work was now being dona with a plo ugh and scoop in cleaning side channels, making tracks, etc. The Board were pleased to note that Mr Dyer, the clerk and overseer, had carried "but " his duties with marked care and energy. * After the report had been discussed by the ratepayers-, Mr G. J. Wreathall moved its adoption, which was seconded by Mr E. Skinner, and carried. -
