THE HARBOURS AND EDUCATION RESERVES BILL.
{BT rUBOBATB.J DUNEDIN, Sbptbmbbb 20. A epeoial meeting of the High Sohool Board of Governors to-day resolved to strongly protest against the passing of the Harbours and Education Reserves Bill. It was pointed out that if thirds and fourths were oharged aB proposed it moant a loss of revenue to the Board of between £800 and £900 a year. Sobools oould not possibly be carried on with suoh a loss. Ihe salaries of the staff had just been reduoed tp the utmost and further retrenchment m tbat direction was impossible. Some 80 or 90 who had gained 50 per cent, m scholarship examinations were receiving free education, many being from the country. If the Bill passed the schools would be simply reduoed to town sobools.
