Twomoy for the Bailwny hotel, Albury The following ronowale of aooommodatior licenses were granted : — P. H. Stock, Silver stream hotel; Malcolm McLeod, Burkes Pasi hotel ; Donald MoMillan, Tekapo Bridge House ; Robert Eiddlo, Pukaki Ferry hotol : and F. F. O. Huddloston, tho HermitageMount Cook. A letter was read from Mr Huddleston applying to have tho amount of hia license fee reduced from £5 to £1, slating that tho house was kept open solely for the use of touristE and that the foo was out of proportion to the amount of liquor business done. After consideration tho license fee was reduced to £2. Mr McGregor congratulated the committee on the satisfactory nature of the police report, which he attributed partly to the inspector m charge and partly to the licensees, and expressed the opinion that tho taousoa m the oounty compared favourably with these m any district that he knew. This was all the business and the committee adjourned. TEMUKA. The first meeting of tho newly elected committee for the Temuka Licensing District was held on Friday, Present — Messrs J. Talbot, W. G. Aspinall. M. Quinn, and A. Clinch. Mr Talbot was elected chairman. The police report on the lioensod buildings was favourable, but the Inspector, Constable Morton, drew attention to the existonca of Sunday trading, proved by drunken men being seen m the streets on Sundays. While he was not prepared to make any speciCo charges against individual licensees, he hoped the committee would warn licensees against infringing the law. All licenses wore renowed, as follows : — J. Anglnnd, Star Hotel ; H. Loo, Crown Hotol ; M. Scannell, Wallingford Hotel ; T. McGuire, Temuka Hotel ; M. McAtoer, Boyul Hotel (all m lemuka) ; ,T. A. Young, Wolsoley Hotel | and J. Mclntosh, Winchester Hotel, at Winchester ; and S. Breadley, Orari Hotel (accommodation liconso). It wss decided that as li\Rt year the lights at the Temuka hotels may be extinguished at 11 p.m. The chairman drew tho attention of licensees to the remarks of the inspector regarding Sunday trading, and warned them that the committee would administer the law us they found it. It had also been brought under his notice that Magistrate's " prohibition orders" were not always respected ; the publioans would only be attending to their own interests m showing respect for the law m all its details.
