LATE CABLE NEWS.

— « (Si-euial to Tin; Sydney "Evening News.") | .London. Oct. 20. At a secret conference of the leaders of tho Conservative) party, hold m Bradford to-day, it wa3 strongly urged that Government should at once take steps to effectively oppose the aggressive designs of Russia, by means of endeavouring to frustrate Russia's contemplated occupation of Stamboul. An enquiry is being made as to what would be the best way of opposing Russia's aggression. It was argued that the policy of Government should be to follow up the foreign policy of Lord Beaconsfield, previous to hia visit to Berlin with Lord Salisbury to discuss the Berlin 'treaty. Lord Randolph Churchill accepted the reply as containing the basis of a very desirable policy to be pursued. He went so far as to admit that the policy of the late illustrious leader of the Conservatives Bhould be followed where practicable, but the noble Lord went on to argue that the changed condition of affairs required a great modification m the cardinal principles of the Beaconsfield policy. Startling rumors have been published m. the London Press. It ia reported on good authority from Paris that the French Government are arranging a scheme by which it hopes to be able, to compol JEngland to .. withdraw her soldiers fiom Egypt, and that io the event of thU

scheme failing another lino of action will bo adopted. The basis of the alternative plan is believed to bo a plot for inciting the Arabs to revolt, and by the aid of French capital and French officers, to en•ible the Arabs to sustain an attack upon the English and force them to evacuate.
