GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

Tho monthly meeting of the Board was hold on Tuesday evening last. MEMIJKItS PRESENT. Messrs li. 11. Pearpoint (chairman), Mnslin, Dunlop, Mundell, Berry, Quinn, mid Taylor. MIN'UTES. Tho minutes of tho previous ordinary meeting were confirmed. L'OHIIESPOSDENCE. Correspondence outwards, and tho following inwards were read : — From tho Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking if the Board would bo willing to exchanao reserves Nes. 194 and 217. for Noa. 193 and 219, so as to bring them under tho village settlements scheme. Resolved — " That the Board has no objection to tho exchange, provided the Crown grants be issued free of cost." From the clerk to the Geraldine County Council, risking that tho Board's share, £10 I'ls 3J, due. on account of Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, bo paid. The amount was passed for payment. From Mr Tripp, enclosing a letter from Mr Marchant, as to cost of survey, etc., re water supply to the town. Mr Tripp offered to pay £'3 towards the same. It was proponed by Mr Dunlop, and seconded by Mr Berry — " That Mr Marchant be requested to come out here in terms of hia letter, for two days, at three guineas per day, to make a survey re water supply to tho town." As an amendment it was proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Mundell — " That Mr Tripp's letter be acknowledged with thanks, and he bo informed th.it owing to tho depression of the times, tho board does not considor itself justified in carrying out Biich works." On the amendment being put, the voting was equal, and tho chairman gave his casting vote in its favour. The original motion was therefore lost. From tho ovorseer to the Geraldine Road Board, enclosing estimate of cost of rep-iiring and lengthening tho Geraldlno footbridge. After a long discussion on tho matter, it was ultimately decided to obtain legal opinion as to whether the board can spond their funds outsido tho town dislrict. From tho town ranger, enclosing list of horses and cattle found wandering at largo within tho town district during the past month. From Mr A. Fisher, applying for leaso of reserve 181. Resolved — " That tenders be called for lease of sections ISos. 181 and 237 in the town district. " From tho representative of tho Timaiuj Herald, asking that that paper be the official journal of tho board for tho ensuing year. From the representative of tho South t'twferbnry Times, re same. Resolved — " That tetiderß be called for advertising and printing by-laws for a period of twelve months." MISCELLANEOCS. Mr Dunlop suggested that n culvert bo placed opposite tho Gond Templar Hall, lending on to the footpath. Tho clerk stated he had dealt with the matter in hia i-oport. Mr Quinn then tabled the following notieo of motion — " That at the next ordinary meeting I will move that tho Board obtain tho services of a compotent workin;; foreman to look nfter tho streets." Mr Maslin then moved his motion, notico of which ho had tabled during last meeting of the B'jnivl, re the bye-laws. It was seconded by Mr Mnndell, and carried. It was decided to hold a special mooting of tho Board on tho lGth inst., for the purpose of considering the proposed byolavs. Accounts, amounting to £30 4s, were pasic.d for payment. The overseer's report, dealingwith works on hand, e'e, was then read. Resolved — " That in future all applications from persons requiring crossings to tluir sections must bo made in writing for the Board's consideration." Tho overseer was instructed to put a pipe culvert down at Mr G. Taylor's crossing, and a wooden culvert across the water tablu opposito tho Good Templar's Hall. Also, that after the fortnight's time has expired for the two workmen to complete their time, no further labor bo employed for tho present. Tho board then resolved itsolf into a Local B iard of Health, and tho Inspector of Nuisances' report was read. Resolved — " That notices be served on al'. persons having nuisances on their promises to tho effect that nnloss they are ahited at once the board will remove tho samo at their expense." The meeting then terminated.
