MACKENZIE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tim ordinary monthly meeting of tho t Mackenzie County Council was held at Burkes' Pass on Monday, tho Ist November, 1880. ME.MIIEKS PRESENT. Mo3Si'3 John McGregor (chairman), J. S. Rutherford, F. It. Oillingham, A. Cowan, Jas. Duncan and Captain Hayter. report. The clerk and overseer'* report was read and considered, and tho following resolutions passed in connection with it : — "That the clerk be instructed to write to Government for a grant to improve the Mount Cook road." " That tho tracing received from the Chriitchurch Survey Office re boundaries of Grampians, Black Forest Runs, bo referred back to the oilico for corrections." " That Messrs Barron and O'Neill's application for road formation bo granted." CORRESPONDENCE. Tho following correspondence was read, and resolutions passed a3 under : — From Mr Thos. Foden, requesting that his name be removed from the rate-book for sections 115095, 28010, 28801. From tho Waimate High School Board, requesting the Council to take the necessary steps for closing certain streets in the township of Albnry. The clerk was instructed to write to the secretary for the necessary plans and information, to lay before Council's next meeting. From the Secretary to tho South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, requesting payment of the council's half-yearly contribution. From Mr John Forgan, stating that he had been informed that the council had at various times during tho past fivo years entered upon his property and removed shingle therefrom, without his knowledge or authority, and forwarding his account, £10, for ahiuglo and damage to property. The clerk was instructed to inform Mr Forgan that his name has not appeared on the valuation roll for the county for tho past four years, and request him to forward particulars of property and proof of ownership, upon receipt of which the council would consider his application. From Mr J. F. Ritchie, Duncdin, re bridge over the Opuha, stating that in negotiating for tho purchaso of the Shovwood Downs property, onu of the inducements hold out was that a bridge over tho South Opuha would shortly be erected ; and forwarding a copy of resolution passed by the Mount Cook Road Board on the Tith September, 1881, to the t fleet that if tho Mount Peel Road Board would bear half tho cost of tho Opihi bridge, Mount Cook Road Board would pay half the cost of bridge over the South Opuha. Mr Ritchie also stated that the bridge must bo erected sooner or later, and that all supposed difficulties standing in tho way would bo got over ; but that he preferred seeing tho work carried out amicably by the public bodies interested. The clerk was instructed to acknowledge tho receipt of Mr Ritchie's lotter, and forward him copies of correspondence on the same subject between the Mount Cook and Mouut Peel Road Boards in the year 1882. DEPUTATION 1 . Mr Boucher appeared as a deputation representing several ratepayers in tho neighbourhood of Fairlie Creek, who requested tho Council to place a plank over the Opihi at the Clayton Road for the convenience of children attending school. The clerk was instructed to repork on the application at next meeting. It was decided to hold the next monthly meeting on the 24 th Novomber — tho day of Council's annual meeting.

ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £283 2s 3d were passed for payment, and the meoting adjourned.
