* Tho regular monthly meeting of Uio above Board was held yesterday morning, tho following membera being PUESEXT. Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), M. Quinn, G. Canavan, and 0. Bissett. MINUTE.S. Tho minutes of lust meeting were read and conlirmed. NEW MEMBER. The memorandum from the returning ofiicor, announcing the election of Mr Christopher Bissett in tho place of the late Mr John Paterson was received. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £87 12s Sd were passed for payment. Two deposits on contracts of 7a each were received. COBRESrOiiDENUE. From Miles, Archer and Co., agreeing to tho substitution of MrMcCuskill's namo for theirs on the roll in respect of certain sections at "Winchester. From the Geraldino Road Board, praying tho Board to re-consHer ther decision re Sharp's bridge ; and asking tho board to contribute half the cost of extending the samo. Tho cost was estimated at about £00. Mr Archer said thero was a consideramount of sheep traffic. Tho outer stream was not more than a foot deep except in time of fresh, and the bridge was not absolutely necessary. Mr Quinn said he had frequently taken sheep across, and never used tho bridge. After some discussion as to the necessity of the bridge, and its permanent utility if erected, the matter was held over for a month. From A. LeCren, manager for tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantilo Agency Company, calling attention to the bad state of t'..e road near Newlands. Tho overseer was instructed to inspect and report. From the Paymaster-General, covering a cheque for £7 173 Id, rates on native lands for the years 1882-6, due to the Board. From Mr James Gregg, asking that Mr Edmund Burke's (of Geraldine) name bo substituted for his on the rate rolls, in respect of land at Orari. Mr Burke i agreeing, the clerk was so instructed. From Mr H. F. Edmiston, asking to have his namo removed from the rolls. — Agreed to. From Mr Stubbs, asking the board to forward a cheque for £170 la lOd, being the amount of the board's contribution to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Tho account was passed for payment. From tho same, covering cheque for £51 10? 2d, balance of subsidy on rates for 18S3 G. H.ATE. On tho motion of Mr Bissett, seconded by Mr Canavao, it was resolved — "That in accordance with a special order passed by the Oravi River Board, a general rate of olio farthing in tho pound on all the rateable properly in tho said Orari River Board district, be now otrucfc ; the said rate to bo for tho period ending 31st March, 1837, and to be payable in one sum at the road board oflico on Bth November, 188G." THK OVEKSEKII'S KKrOIIT To the following effect was then presented ; — " Contract No. 70, cleaning drain near Greenaway's is completed and passed for payment. No. 08, tussocking at Rangitata, is almost completed. Tho other contracts in hand are progressing favourably. The report recommended that if the board decide to shingle Seatou'a road it be done during the summer months About 110 chains of the road have never been shingled, and the cost would be about £275. A portion of tho Milford and Orari road— about a mile— requires shingling, about 8 yards to the chain, cost probably about la 4d per yard. The Milford and Beach ' road has been badly cut up during tho winter. The worst of the ruts have been filled, but to make the road fit for traffic during the winter, it requires shingling. Be Mr Bissett'a application. There is about 10 chains of Stewart's road requiring formation. The cost would be about 14s per chain. SMALL BIRDS NUISANCE. The chairman brought up the question of purchasing (ggs and birds, but tho board did not seem to think that offering a reward for such would tend to diminish the nuisance to any appreciable extent. No action was taken. No other business came before the board.
