AROWHENUA RESERVES.

Mr J. H. Baker, Commissioner of Crown Ltiulf, ntterided at the Town Bi'.inl office, Temnka, yesterday, and met a deputation from the Arowhenua Town Board to discußS tho allocation of tho Board's reserves. Messrs Lee (chairman), Edgeler and Story wore present on behalf of the Board, together with the clerk, Mr George Dyson. Mr Baker explained that ho had been instructed by Government t<> allocate certain reserve?, to which the Board was entitled under tho Ltind By tho old Act the Board would have been entitled to a tenth of all tho land in the township, but by the amending Act of 1877, it was only entitled to a tenth of all the sections gold, or available f>r sale. The total area (if the Arowhenua township is 394 acre, of which 133 acres are reserved as aP;irk. The area, exclusive of streets and roads, <iv:\ilable for sole and sold, is ~ 10 acres, the Board thus being entitled to 21 acres. Mr Baker then weut over tho plan with the deputation, pointing out the sections ho thought suitable. Messrs Let; and Story thought that it would be more advantageous for the board to have larger blocks, say of one or two acres each. The board wanted immediate revenue, and tho larger the blocks were tho. more readily they would Int. Mr Baker had r.o objection to the grouping of smaller Boctions into larger, lint Mr Edgoler protested Btrongly, maintaining that Biieli a proceeding would create a monopoly. The inhabitants of l he township were not wealthy, and the smaller sections would suit them much better. After some discmsion seventeen blocks of varying area from two acres downward were selected.
