WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usu::l meeting of 'he Council was held on the 4t.h iiirt. Present— Hia Worship tho M'lyor, and Conn illors Watts, Jonp», Evan?, Cameron, Dngdale, Sinclair and Harrison. KOrTIKE. The minutes of the previous meeting were rend nnd confirmed. C'OItIiK3PO>'D".NCE. Letters wero read, from Mr. Edwards, st-iting that the pou'idkeeper had impounded hii cattle, and asking if tho fees charged were m excels of the leg;il charges ; apology for übsence from the meeting wm received from Councillor Mitchell ; from Mr Harrison and oth-r ratepayers petitioning for the shingling of Unvris =treet ; from the ttev. J. Goutenoire, expressing willingness to allow n drain to he mudo through tho properly of St. Patrick's Clnin-b ; from the Minister 'of Public Works, stating tluil the Government is making enquiry with a view to finding work for tho unemployed on tho railway. 'Jhe clerk was instructed to reply to Mr Edwards m terms of tho Impounding Act. Resolved—" That Harrii street ha shingled and channels cleaned nnd footpaths shingled from Manse street to Mill Road." Mr?cEr.r.A>"!:ou3. The Inspector of Nui^iricM repr.Tled that considerable dam.iga was done to vacant houses m tho borough, by wilful injury to the buildings, such !is window-breaking. It was resolved that a reward of 20i bo offered by the council to any porsun. giving such information as ah-i'.l li'iri to tho conviction of any pcr-on or persona for breaking windows, or otherwise injuring houses within the borou«h. Thisre3olution was opposed by Councillors Sinclair, Dugdalc, Ham-on, and Jonc?, and was carried, by tho casting vote of the Mayor. A Works Committee consisting of Councillors Cameron, Sinclair, Collet!, and Wat'a Win appointed. Councillors Evans, Harrison, Dnsdali 1 , Mitchell and Junes were appointed a oinmilt'e to manage the Public Library. Councillors Cameron, Jo.vm, nnd Mitchell were appointed a iU-Fervcs Cominirt'-e.
