THE GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL INDUSTRIES.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, Bopt. 21. By the- Pan Francisco mail, Government have received a communication on tho Bubject of keeping the Colonial Exhibition open beyond tho original term. Before coming to a decision the other colonies will be communicated with. Regarding the manufacture of insulators Government are desirous of getting them manufactured m the colony if possible and the timo for receiving tenders has been three times extended. They have received many representations on tho subject, but aa it is absolutely necessary to have n damp proof article they have been compelled to mate the conditions very stringent. They have been asked to allow salt glazoto be used but it is not considered equal to the gluze required. The color is another difficulty, and Government m recognising the importance of the Bubject is anxious to see a manufactory established m the colony, but objects to heavy additional expenditure being imposed an the Telegraph Department m order to encourage colonial industry m preference to tho imported article.
