FIRE AT WAIMATE.
On Friday morning, about a quarter before four o'clock, Mr W- J. Black, overseer of the Waimate County Council, was awakened by a neighbor who informed him that his stable WBB on fire. Mr 3 Jack immediately got assistance and endeavoured to put out toe fire but it had gained too strong a, hold, and tho building, with all its oontents, was reduood to BBhes. Fortunately Mr BlacVa own house, (landing about 30 feet away, is built of brick, and this, combined with the absence of
i wind, prevented the fire spreading. Tho stable was a comparatively new odo, and was well and strongly built. It contained a nearly now dog cart, several sets of harness and a large quantity of saddlery, besides feed, ! oats, &c. As overseer Mr Black was obliged to procure special articles of harness, &c, for the purposes of hia business, and all this as well as his tools were destroyed. He estimates his loss at ovor £200, and had no insurance either on building or contents. The origin of the lire is mysterious, os no light or fire had beon used about the building during the day, the etablo too was entirely isolated, and tho lire started m the corner most remote from the houso.
