PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, TEMUKA.

A bazaar and gift auction was held m the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, yesterday, m aid of the funds of the Temuka Presbyterian Church. Shortly after ten o'clock m the morning numbers of people were seen wending their way m the direction of tho Ball with various articles for the tables, and very soon all was bustle and stir inside. Two stalls were erected on the western side of the Hall and one on the eastern side, and across the bottom was a large refreshment table. The stalls and room were very tastefully decorated. Tho three stalls were profusely covered with articles of all descriptions, and were presided over by Mesdames Taylor and McCaskill, and the Misses McNair, Blyth, Bisset, Hay, and McCullough. On the refreshment table which was presided over by Mesdames MacintOßh and Hay was to be found an abundance of everything that was likely to tempt one to eat, and as a result this table was during the afternoon and evening very largely patronised. Large numbers of people paid the hall a visit m the afternoon, and in' the evening it was literally packed and presented a very animated socne. As usual quite a bevy of young ladies were engaged m tho evening disposing of the various articles for sale by the "inevitable" raffle and otherwise. An auction was afterwards held of the articles remaining unsold, but Mr Gray had little to do, the fair sex during the day having relieved him very materially m that respect by the very enorgetic way m which they rot rid of their stock, and the way they. nheodlcd the "bawbees" ont of the pockets of the stcrncrsex. The affair was a decided success, and the net proceeds must have been very considerable, considering that over £30 m cash had been collected. j Besides this Mr Gray held an auction of live and dead stock at his rooms m connection with the bazaar, which sale realised about £1(5. The storekeepers, and people of all denominations, were most liberal m their contributions m stock, etc., towards the bazaar, and this considerably helped to make it a success. Great credit is due to Mr H. A. Bout, the energetic secretary, and the other officers of the church, for the manner m which the affair was carried out.
