OAMARU HARBOUR BOARD.

♦ At a special meeting of the Oamaru Harbour Board, held yesterday, communications from the secretary and chairman of the Tiiaaru Harbour Board, anent the purchase of one-half interest m the Oamaru dredge, was read and discussed. The chairman stated that the original cost of the dredge was £13,000, but the additions and alterations brought the amount up to £16,000. Mr Reid was of opinion that the Board could not sell for less than £8000. Mr Holmes thought that £8000 would carry the Board on for a few years. Mr Shrimski was not favorable to tlio sale of the dredge. If they Bold it the money would go, and they would not derive much benefit from it. Mr Holmes pointed out that the dredge would not suit tho whole of the requirements of the Timaru Harbour Board, i An irregular discussion ensued, which resulted m Mr Reid suggesting that the whole of the intereat.and working expenses m connection with the dredge^ should be computed, and that each Board sHbuld, pay m proportion" to thd; time they had' the dredge employed. He tkought too, each", Board should have the right of the dradge for certain periods on giving notice. . After some further discussion a motion was proposed to sell a halfsharoof the dredge to the Timor'u Board for £8000. Several members were x>f opinion that the matter should not be finally disposed of without the Board having the right "of reviewing the whole of the - terms. Ultimately the following resolution . was .carried : — " That the half interest of the dredge be. offered to the Timaru Harbour Board for-£BOOO, Bubject to an arrangement as to terms of partnership being drawn up by Committees of both Boards ; such . proposed agreement to be brought up for confirmation."
