F. Medlieott, W. Anderson, F. Fielding, U. C. Doseett, J. Murphy, J. Mcßeth, it. nunt, AY. Greig, J. McDo'nald, D. Aitken, F. French, J. Geaney, n. Jackson, J. Bahton ; Handicapper — Mr D. McKenziq j Troasuver— Mr I. L. Morris ; Secretary— Mr T. B. Lyle. Tho annual popular race meeting of the Pleasant Point Racing Club was held yesterr day 011 the usual course, Jaid pff on lijnd belonging to the Levels Estate and distant about a mile from tho flourishing town of Pleasant Point, the meeting as usunl proving very successful. St. Patrick's morning broke dull and throateriirig-looking, but beyond the fall of a few slight showers of rain tho weather was pro:ty woll all that could bo desired. Pleasant Point was of courso quite m holiday attire, and as the hour of noorj drow near tho number of persons seen wonding their way up the hill to the south of the town on their way to tho course, was very largo indeed. Tho guaranteed special train which loft Timaru at 11 a.m. took out over 100 passengers, among whom wore many ladies, and at the various stations on the road picked up several persons. The train' arrived at its destination at 11.40, and the passengers after a few minutes' stay followed- their country cousins to tho trysting place. ■■ On arrival at the courso it was ecen that tho Club' had mado very completo arrangements for carrying out their day's work,- tiie eouree being well defined by means of colored flags, and tho booths, etc., nicely disposed m the mojt convenient places. On the ground were the usual " money-taking " machines, and all of them, so far as an outsidor roulil j mlge, did a fair business. Our old. friends Messrs Mason and Roberts had ono of their splendid tofalisators at work, and put through during tho day the sum of £150 odd m £L tickets. Mr Josoplms Murphy had the publican's booth, and Mr Adams llio refreshment booth, and despite tho fact that tho -weather was not conducive to heavy eating and drinking, both did a rattling trade. Mr J. T: Kennedy kept the gates, and ho also had vory little (if any) caueo to regret his speculation. Constable Stanley, of tho Point, was officially on tho courso, and wa3 assisted by Constables Sheehan and Cusey, of Timaru, but their duties wero very light, the spectators, taken as a whole being most' orderly. Jn the ahsoncp qf Mr Biittierford the President (Mr Mep) occupied the Judgp's box, and throughout tho meeting his decisions gave tho greatest sa'isfnction. Tho Clerk of the Course, and of the Scales, and the Starter fulfilled their duties m a manner that found favour with all, and_ the Secretary (Mr T. E. Lyle), is to bo again complimented for tho way ho discharged his; dutie3, and to he thanked for the courtesy he extendod to our representative. ,■'■■' Sport commenced about noon with the Handicap Hurdle Bacd, for which flvo out of the six coloured on the card cried content and weighed out.. Tho course was m capital order ;• was just, perhaps, a trifle too holding ibut not at all greasy ; and tho race proved a grand one. It lay almost from the fall of tho flag botweeri Boco and. Modesty, and the latter, after a clinking finish, won almost on the post by a neck. Both horses were well ridden, and got over the timber m first-class stylo. . The Hack Hurdles proved quite a gift to Tho Dodger, Nancy Lee, who was expected to make a close thing of it, cutting up rough, and never getting within a hundred yards of the winner. Tho Cup ajso proved rather a fiasco from the publio point of view, Soaltheen after doing a mile and a half m company lotting put, and winning m tho easiest manner by nearly a quarter of a mile. Tho win was a very popular one, and tho horse was literally rushed m the totalieator. The noxt event was the Maiden,. Plate for which the large field of six did the ' preliminary cantor. After a, good raco Matagowry won rather easily, Eoso Hnd Chinaman running well for ihe other honours. Tor the Handicap, the scratchings were so many that tho race was reduced to a match boteweon Lass and Camerine, and the. latter 'being the "feather weight," won as she liked. The Selling Hack race then occupied attention, :and brought out large fields for each heat. The winner turned up m Essie, who ran well throughout. The Consolation had' not been run when the train left for Timaru. ■ Following are details of the various events :■ — '■■•■■ .. Handicap HtmpLEa, of 20 soys ; 2 miles. Mr J. Shaw's Modesty, aged, lOst 71b r (Ted Blackmore) 1 Mr Ashby's Boco, Sirs, lOst 21b (K. Dunn) 2 Mr Esler's The Dodger, aged, 9st 21b (Trilford) 3 Mr E. Mahoney's Shadow, 9sfc 4lb , (Butterworth) 0 Mr Allen's Sultan, 9st 71b (W. Burgees) 0

Mr M. J. Godby's Silver King was scratched. Fivo faced Mr MoDonald for this tho first event on the card, and tho old favourito, Boco, was served up a warm favourite for it. The Btart was a capital one, Boco immediately going to tho front and setting the paco merrily. Ho still led on passing the judge's post, closely attended by the others, Sultan whipping m about two lengths bohind them. At the back of the course Modesty got on torms with Boco, and tho pair raced away from tho others at a great paco. Turning into the straight, tho maro had a slight lead, and on taking the hurdlo at- the judge's stand, she led Boco over by half a length ; Tho' Dodger coming next somo • lengths behind, tbo others hopelessly m the rear. The pair named then made a slashing raco of it, and turning into the straight for home, whips -were at once brought out. On the horses came amid great excitement and cries of " Boco wins," but the favourito could not hold Modesty, who won a splondid raco by a neck. The Dodger was a fair third ; tho others distanced. Biackmoro and Dunn, ns usual, rode jwell, and their horses jumped without a fault. Thero was £47 m the totalisator j £13 on tho winner j dividend, £3 Bs. Hack HimpLES, of 10 boys ; li miles ; weight not loss than list. Mr Esler's The Dodger ... (Trilford) 1 Mr Hawko's Nancy Lee ... (Brown) 2 Flying Dutchman, Edelwoiss, Ihe Radical, The Titter, and Tho Old Firm, also Btarted. Tho Dodger won from tho start ; Nancy Lee being tho only one that could get at all near him. Thero was £41 m tho machine ; £17 on the winnor ; dividend, £2 69. Pleasant Point Cup, of 25 soys j 2 miles. Messrs Murphy and Stock's eh h Scaltheen, by Daniel O'Bourke, Bst 111 b (Griffon) 1 Mr Hunt's Jackal], 9st ... (Burgess) 2 Mr T. Lewis' Lass, 7st 71b ... (Owner) 3 Mr Esler's Bweet William, Bst 71b (Trilford) 0 For this event, the piece de resistance of tho mooting, the four acceptors named above sported silk, and the machine soon showed that tho liandaomo son of Daniol O'Rourke was first favourite, Juckall coming next. The result showed that Scaltheen was m grand form, for be won hands down by fully twenty lengths. Mr McDonald sent tho horses on their journey m very pretty style, and on their passing the Stand the first time, Juckall was leading by half a length, Scaltheen next, tho Lass on his quarters, and Sweet William a couple of lengths m tho rear. Tho horses raced m this order till tho back of tho coureo was reached, when tho La's went up, and going strong, led into the straight, and passed tho Stand with half a length to the good ; Jackall and Scaltheen running aido by side, Sweet William lengths m the rear. Whon tho back was again reached, however, Griffen gave the favourito his head, and ho at once camo away, and won with ridiculous easo by fuUy twenty lengths ; a very bad third. Thoro wns £129 m tho totalisator j £G0 on tho winner ; dividend, £1 18s. Maiden Platr, of 10 soya (for district horses only); weight for ago ; 1J miles. Mr F. Lambort'i) Matagowry (late Warrior), 9st 31b ... (Butterworth) 1 Mr Hunt's Chinaman, 9st 31b... (Burgess) 2 Messrs Murphy and Stock's Hose, Vit (driffen) 8 Mr Fielding's Twilight, Oat ... (Jnckson) 0 Mr Smith's Fhccbe, 9st ... (Trilford) 0 Mr Hawko's Nancy Lee, 9st ... (Mason) 0 As Boco, Scottish Chief and The Dodger had been scratched, tho six horses named wore left to go to tho post, and among them wore somo likely-looking flyers. At tho full of the flag the lot got away beautifully, and kept well together for half a mile Twilight then emerged from tho ruck, and at every strido kept putting more daylight between him and tho other hordes. Past tho Stand ho led by a length, but Chinaman then raced up and passed him. Butterworth then began to send Matagowry along, and at tho back of the course ho collared and passed tho leaders, and comingon full of running won easily. Rosa and Chinaman hid a stiff tusslo v for second place, but the others were all over tho track, niany lengths m tho roar. There was £?4 m the totalisator ; £35 on the winner ; dividend, £1 12s. St. Patbick's Handicap, of 15 soys ; 1 j milo3. Mr F, Lambort's Camorine, 7st (Smith) 1 Mr F. lowis 1 Lass, 7st 61b ... (Owner) 2 Tho "weights for this raco wero declared after the Cup had been run, and as Jackall, Scaltheen, Nancy Lee, Sweet William and Eose had not m owners' opinion been properly treated, tho pen was put through their naires at once. This loft only two m to contest the race, which' was a poor ono from beginning to end. Both horece kept together till within, a length or two of the post, when Camerino got one cut with tho whip, jumped forward arid won by half a length. Thoro was £89 m the machine ; £41 on the winner ; dividend, £1 17s. Beliiso Hack Back, of 10 soys ; i mile heats. Essio .. „, ... ' 1 Tho Titter 2 Eleven horses entered for this race, the first heat being won by Tho Titter, the dividend being £10 12s. The second heat resulted m an easy win for Essie, tho backers of whom got £5 each, and tho final was won by hor also. The Consolation had not been run when our reporter left the courso.
