G. V. B. DRAMATIC CLUAB.
A very successful entertainment was given by the members of the G.V.B. Dramatic Club at the Catholic Boys' Schoolroom last evening. The house was moderately full, and tho audience highly appreciative. Wood's String Band, under tho leadership of Mr Sidney Woolf, R.A.M., gave several musical selections with good balance and capital time, thoso specialy deserving notice being " Mosanicllo," " Minnit Polka, " Cleopatra," and a rapid chaDge of Irish selections, including "Exile of Erin, 1 ' "Bold Soldier Boy," " Garry Owen," and " Patrick's Day." The representation of " Miriam's Crime'^Twos rendered very successfully, and without a hitch, the leading characters being sustained by Messrs Dennohy, Whelan, Wilson and Kenny. Miss McKenna deserves speoial praiso for cleverly sustaining the part of Miriam, the heroine of the piece. This young lady played with an air o£ p&turalness and self -possession which stamped her as a favourito atonoo with her good-humoured audience. Mr Donnehy, as tho. wily representative of the law, mado several good hits, and barring defective vocality, gave evidenoe of considerable histrionic ability. Mr Whelan, inhis quaint rollicking .Btyle,"Vkept'o"n the best of terms with his audience, the character of Biles giving full play to bis peculiarities iii the art of drollery and mimicry. Messrs Wilson and Kenny very ably sustained their respective parts, and gave promise of better things on attaining to more experience m their particular roles. '1 he farce was very ably carried out by Mr TV J. Konnedy and tho Company. Mr Kennedy was; inimitable m his graphic and faithful representation Of the Irish tiger, his make-Up, bonhommie, and liberal interlarding of tho vernacular, being unmistakably pleasing to an audience naturally predisposed to tho enjoyment of national sketches. , The entertainment will be repeated this evening, 1 ns will bo teen by on advertisement, when tho prioes wilj bo wducod to. one shilling to all part* of the hall.
