THEATRE ROYAL.

I Tne Combado Bbbties. ■' / , • The Colorado Beetle Minstrel Troupe paid

! their first visit to Timaru last evening, appearing m the Theatre Royal to a good houeo, the. lower part of which was filled. Tho entertainment as a whole gave every satisfaction, and tho audience had certainly no reason to complain of want of fun. The Company comprises five ladies and four gentlemen, of whom Miss Amy Vauglmn, Mr Devereux and the Norton Brothers tako the principal part. Ihe first part of the entertainment was as usual a miscellaneous ono, Miss Vaughan acting as interlocutress, Mr Jim Norton as " Bones," and Mr R. W. Devereux as " Tambo." They proved capable of doing their duty, especially the lady, who kept the "side" men well up to their work. Somo pretty little songs wero renderod by tho ladies of the Company, and comic ones by tho gentlemen. The "Mounted Foot Brigade," representing a lot of badly-drilled and mixed up soldiers of all sizeß and shapes, created immense amusement. In tho second part Miss Amy Vaughan's baby, masher, and character songs arid dances were encored, while the Norton brothers m their Bilver shoe dances and acrobatic songs were heartily applauded. Mr Devereux is certainly a good comic singer, and tho praises which have been bestowed on him by tho Press m other parts of the colony are welldeserved. The entertainment was brought to a close by tbe old farce of " Thompson's Dead." Wo must not omit to mention that tho little sisters, May, and Daisy Thornton, m their song and dance, " Tho Apple of my Eye," acquitted themselves capitally. The Company appear again to-night, when wo hope to see a full houso.
