(By Telegraph.) Auckland, April 11. The Premier (Mr Stout), at the invitation of the Liberal Association, went all round the suburbs of Auckland to-day, accompanied by the leading members of the Association and the Mayors of Auckland and Parnell. Among the places visited was Onehunga, where Mr Stout was received by the Mayor .(Mr Jackson), and a luncheon took place. The Mayor proposed the health of the Promior, which was heartily drunk. Henry McKegney, a laborer, aged 40, was killed yesterday bj a tree falling across his neck. The deceased, who was a sober, industrious man, leaves a widow and four young children. The Paroa Biding election, which was recently upset, was contested again on Saturday by the same two candidates, when Mr Guinness, member for the district, was returned by a_ larger majority than on the previous occasion. William Purdham, a jockey, was thrown from his horse when riding home from Templeton on Friday night, and received concussion of the brain. He has partially recovered consciousness to-day, and is pro* grossing favorably. Swan finished his walk at the drillshed at 11.30 last night, having covered 484 miles 293 yards m 143 i hours. The score for the local men was 479 miles — McGrath 70 miles, Anderson 71, Cox 85, McCourt 65, Muhreison 95 and Cusack 92. The attendance with the exception of last night was not very good. A subscription was made for Swan, and realised £10, which Mr Arenas, the starter, supplemented with another £10. The body of a new born female child, much decomposed, was found m the Avon near the cemetery yesterday evening. The police have not yet ascertained how it came there. At 2.30 a.m. to-day a- fire occurred at A. Dallas and Co.'s, auctioneers and furniture dealers, building, which belonged to the widow of the late Isaac Tuck. The building was gutted, but post of Dallas' stock was saved. The building waß insured for £400 m the Colonial, and the stock for £400 m the Norwich Union. Nothing can be ascertained as to the cause of the fire. The Minister for Defence has accepted the services of the Mounted Infantry corps for Christchurch, and of the Lyttelton Land Artillery. - ' DtTNEDIN, April 11. A shoemaker named Paterson has gone missing from Balclutha. His two carpet bags and his liat have been found on the river bank, and it is believed lie has been drowned. Large accessions have been made to the ranks of the Volunteers during the past day or two, and an " Otago trained band " is proposed to be formed of men who have been members of any disciplined force.
