WESLYAN BAZAAR.

The bazaar in aid of the We»loyan Church Trust Fund was opened yesterday morning in the long room of the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company's buildings, by Mr John Jackjou, Mayor of Timaru. There was not a very large attendance, the inconvenience of the hour no doubt preventing many from those present were Councillors Massey, Gibson, Butter, Gsbiteß, Delaney, Sherratt and Jones ; Mr K. H. Lough, Town Clerk ; the Rev. Mr Beck (Wesley an minister), and Mrs Beck, and tbe Her. Mr Sharp (Congregational minister), and Mrs Sharp. His Worship the Mayor, in opening the Bazaar, eaid he was very glad of being present on auch an auspicious occasion, and begged on behalf of the Councillors present and himself, to wish the promoters of the Bizaar every success in their undertaking. He was not personally a great advocate for baziara, as he knew from personal experience too much about them. Still, however, bazaars possessed grent inducements and advantages. For inatance, aome people hai more time than money. These coi.tribnted their labor, and so got articles together for a bazaar. Vogelrr and O. Warrington attend tho book and flower stall; and Mesdaraes Gilbert, Foster and Birgefrrdo, and Miss Thompson have obarge of the refreshment stall. The room in which the Bazaar is held is a very suitable one, and has been nicely Itiid out. To the right of tbe door is the book and tlower stall, an which ia neatly arranged ir front flowers and plants in pots, and above ai tbe back are several rowa ot book*, whilt pictures and mottoes are neatly displayed in convenient places. Along this u3e of th< room ore also placed two stalls which contair needlework of every description, from plait ta the latest designs in crewel arc embroidery work, in addition to a very larci assortment of useful artiolea or other kinds At the east end of the room is a dais, at om corner of wbioh is plaoed a puno for usi during the evening*. A considerable numbor o pictures are arranged about tho room some of which are really good. Among then are two by local amateurs — a copy of one o Landsoer's famous pictures nicely done i crayons by Miss Bowker ; and a water-colo drawing of Charles I. by Miss Lovegrort Both are very well done, and show plain] that the artists are possessed of no mia ability.
