Tbe Board, having granted the amount on | the estimate of the Surroyor, resolved that it could not be increased. Mr M. Clark, as manager of the Arowhonua estate, attended m roferenco to closing a certain road at Arowhenua and exchanging the oame for ouffiuient land to form a road elsewhere. The Chairman having read Mr White's legal opinion on tha matter, the Board resolved to take the necessary steps to carry out the proposed eltoration, the land to bo dodicatod freo of cost. Rainc, Manager of Newlands - Station, making application for tho road to j be formed near Ncwlunds wnolshed ; also, i suggesting that tho drain on the lower sido of the road bctwoen Mr Rolleston's hut and 3 Newlands be cleaned, the N.Z.L. and M.A. > Company, Timaru, being willing to defray ) half of the cost ; also, pointing out that tho • road through the swamp, from the hut to tho ' beach was too soft for traffic, and recommending that the drain alongside the road be , deepened and the shingle therefrom thrown on tho road. The Board decided to form the road near the woolshed ; the Surveyor to report on tho condition of thn Swamp road. From Mr J. A. Young, agreeing to the terms of tho Board re concrote kerbing m front of bis hotel, but complaining that the several works authorised near his premises had not been commenced. Thn Surveyor informed tho Board that tenders were due, and would bo placed before the Board. From the Clerk to the Qeraldine County Oouncil, forwarding a copy of the following resolution passed by the Council, viz. : — " That the Temuka Road Board be informed that the Council will consider tho whole question of taking over the bridges of the County at the next meeting; m the meantime any urgently needed expenditure incurred by the Board will be considered and allowed for m any arrangements arrived at. From Mr P. Friol and others, asking tho Board to shiogle Campion's road for a distance of li miles. Tho Surveyor was directed to report on the application at next meeting. From the Colonial Secretary's Office, acknowledging receipt of a resolmion pasted by tho Temuka Road Board objecting to the boundaries of the proposed now Borough of Temuka, and stating that unless a counterpetition as provided by section 17 subsection 6 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1876, is presented before the 17th October, tho Colonial Secretary will feel it to be his duty to advise the Governor to proclaim the Borough m accordance with the prayer of tho petition. TBNDBBS. Tenders having been considered, the following were aoccopted : — Contract No. 81 — F. M0110y,£125 7s ; No. 82— M. Dunn, £7 ; No. 81— X. Counihan, Io o|d j No. 86 — D&vis and Co, £10 7s; No. 88— Divis and Co., £9 153 ; No. 69— Wm. Lewis, £61 17s 6d. Tenders for contra-ts 85, 87, 90, and 91 were deferred for further consideration or fresh tenders. BUHVKtOB'S REPORT. The Surveyor's report for tho past month was read as follows: — " Sir, — I havo the honor to report for the month ended October 2nd, 18S3, as follows : — " The contracts on hand havo not mailo very good progress during tho month owing to tho rainy, and the bridges have been stopped for timber, but that is to hand now, so that they can be finished during the present month. " Works ordered to bo reported on at las', meeting. — Mr Greenaway's drain on lower sido would not improvo the road much by being oleanod out, although there is some shinglo washed m it from off the road which might be replaced. The stoppage of the Sod Town Creek by Mr B. Thomson's water wheel, complained of by Messrs Douglas and Burke, is not doing the lattor any damage ; but Mr Douglxs has a littlo to complain of, but this will bo remedied by Mr Thomson moving tho wheel lower down. Tbe hole m &jd Town complained of by Mr Austin might be filled up when the road, which is about five ch'iins, , is formed. There nro a lut of these holes m the eivne placo, but they were not made by the inhabitants. The other works ordered have been attended to. The street asked to be shingled by Mr J. Brown some time ago I would recommend to be done, as there ore some bad holes, but the other street spokon of might remain until winter before being done. "As sotco of the drains ordered last Board day were requiring immediate attention, I hare let them privately. " Tenders have been called for ton contracts, which are for your consideration this duy.
