For qualified hunters that hare novcr won «ny race (other than a qualified hunters' race) of the advertised value of 80 sots. Distance, about two and a half milet. Mr Allan's Tommy, lOjt 81b (A. Deliwain) ... ... ... ... 1 Mr H. Piper's BaTon.wood, 12.t 71b (Owner) 2 Melbourne and Battler aha ran, but the latter persistently refused. Bradley took a wrong courie with Melbourne before they bad gone far, and ai Ravenswood came down, Tommy got a long lead, and was never beaded, winning as ho liked. The refusals reduced the field to small dimensions, before they had gom far, and at a mile from home only Canary, Traitor,* Linwood, and Tommy had a ghost of \ show. Canary and Tommy landed over the last fence together, aid a good race home ended in a half lenath victory for Canary. The Opbk Handicap Steeplechase, a sweepstakes of 5 eon each, with 100 sots added ; the srond horea to reeeivo 25 sots from the stake. Distance abuut three miles. Mr D. O'Brien's Bateman, lOit 51b (Cotton) 1 Mr A. W. Dillon'* Hercules, lOst (Wood) 2 Mr P. Butler's Quamby, lOit 121b (Lyford) 3 Clarence, 12sb 121b ; Leraot, lOst ; and Raveaswood, 10et61b, aleo ran. Bateman led from the start to the finish, with Hercules in close attendance. Quamby was in trouble six furlongs from home, and at that point the heavy ground also told on Clarence. Bateman and Hercules rose at the last fence together, and though Bateman had had as much as he liked a hundred yards from home, Cotton just kept him going long enough to win by the shortest of heads from Heroulei.
