A MEAN THEFT.
STEALING ONE SHILLING
FROM A LAD.
Auckland, July 31. A particularly mean thoffc was thus| punished at tlio Police Court by Mr R. S. Bush, B.M. A man named Denis Sullivan was charged with having, on tho 28th of July, stolen one shilling from a lad named E. White. Ho doposod that ho called at a coffee stall and asked for two sixpences for one shilling. Tho prisoner was standing by, and took the shilling, but did not give the change. Ho then denied having received the money. Corroborative evidonce was given, and Mr Bush sentenced prisoner to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour.
