A MIDNIGHT FRACAS.
AN ALLEGED ASSAULT.

Auckland, July 31, On Saturday at midnight an altercation atose in a. house of ill repute in Upper Albert street, which ended in a woman named Maggie Moran getting bit,it is J alleged, by a man, on the head with a i beer bottle. Constable Pardy took her | to the Hospital where Dr Forbes dressed her wound, which was a scalp wound, Bndßhe was brought back to town again. No arrest has yob been made iu connection with tho affair. The police visited the house about an hour previously, and fouud a man there, whose namo they took down in accordance with the new order issued by Inspector Hickson, with a view of summoning him as a witness the house whou further logal proceedings are taken.
