London July 12. A daring attempt to rob the People's bank at Bentonvillo, Arkansas, of $100,000 was frustrated in a singular manner on Monday. At nine in the morning six desperadoes came into the town armed with revolvers and Winchester rifles. Four were mounted, and two drove a buggy drawn by a fast* trottiug mare. They proceeded straight into the bank. Then, while two, Winchesters in hand, stood sontry at the back and front entraueos, the other threeone man remaining in the buggylevelled pistols at the bank officials and compelled them to empty all the cash and bills in the safe into bags which the robbers had brought with them, and carry them to where the buggy was standing. Mr Jackson, the cashier, was carrying the bag with fcho coins, whon, as ho passod the offico of a newspaper, next door to the bank, Miss Maggie Hood, a young lady attached to the local staff, hold the street door ajar. Jackson saw his chance, darted inside, and locked the door. Tho disappointed robbers bogan to (Ire on tho building while Jackson, who had hastily armed himself, replied from a window, and received a flesh wound in tho arm.
