WATER SUPPLY CORPORATION.

The usual monthly meeting of the Water Supply Corporation was held at the Borough Council Chambers lsst evening. Present:-"His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Brodie, Speight) Ehrenfried, Prioe, and Thorburu.

Emotion op Chaibman.—On the motion of Mr Ehbenpbied, seoonded by Mr Thogbuhn, his Worship the Mayor was elected chairman for the next half* year.

leishtown,—A number of the reaiuents of Irishtown wrote asking that a' pipe be laid from the tanks oa the hill to the lower part of the village, and they would pay full rates,—The Tubnoook said he did not think' there was enough ram pressure to draw up the additional quantity required by the applicants,— After some discussion it was resolved to refer the application to the Works Codl> mitteej with power to aot. Block 5a.-The Secretary reported that the residents had not come forward with seven months'water rate in advance, and in consequence the work of connecting the block with water had not. been' proceeded with, although the work had been authorised.

Watee Bates Unpaid.—The Secretary said that there were three hundred pounds' worth of rates not paid, and he wished to know how he was to get them collected.—Some discussion ensued, and it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Secretary.

Accounts.—'l he accounts amounted to £12035, and were passed, snbjeot to the approvel of the Finance Couimiitee.

Financial Position.—The Chaibjun spoke of the recent conference of local bodies re the Water Supply Corporation, and said that a resolution was arrived at that it was desirable the corporation should be vested in the Borough Council.

TTo believed it was the intention of the Parawai Board to hand over thoir interest to the Borough Council, and lie thought they should make application to the County Council to sell thoir interest.—' Cr. Speight thought it was high time something should be done; at present there was no management whatever.— The Mayob considered, from the remarks he bad heard from County Councillors, that the County Council would favourably consider the application to sell their interest. —Mr I fIoiiBUEN said he thought it would not work well for a body like the Borough Council to manage a water supply, -Or, Speight moved " That the secretary of this committee be instructed to write to tho Thames Borough Council enquiring whether that body is willingjto take over the property and liabilities of this committee, and to the County Council asking if they are willing to transfer their interest in the water supply to the Borough, and if so, on what terms."—Cr. Eheenfbied said he could never consent, as a Borough Councillor and a member of the water committee, to allow the supply to pass into the hands of persons who were not responsible to residents of the Borough.—Mr Bbodib moved that the resolution be altered so that the first part shall refer to the County Council and the second part to the Borough Council.—Cr. Speight said his object in moving the resolution was to see whether the Borough Council were willing to take over the affairs of the corporation.—Mr Paics seconded the resolution.—Messrs Price, Speight, and Ehrenfried voted for the resolution, and Messrs Brodie and Thorburn against. The resolution was therefore carried.

FiLTEB.-Mr Speight said that Dr. Payne Lad made an analysis of the reserveir water, and it was in suoh a state that he recommended it should be filtered just after leaving the reservoir, He (the speaker) thought some action should be taken.—The Ohaieman said they had no money in hand, to deal, with the recom.mendationT \ %.

,Standpipes.—The MAYormoved that the Turncock be instructed to torn on the water to the standpipes now dry, N so that all might participate in the benefic'of a good supply.—The motion was not se? conded, and the Mayor said he woula make his resolution into a notice of motion, to be discussed at next meeting. County Wateb.—At the suggestion of Mr Thorburn it was decided to make application to the County to allow some of their water to be turned into the committee's mains. '
