TRANS-AUSTRALIAN PLIGHT. LANDING PLACES PREPARED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received Deo. 10, 11.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 10. The Defence Department has made arrangements for the flight of arriving airmen across Australia from Darwin to Melbourne, via Cloncurry, Cliarleville, Bourke and Albury, where there will be stores of petrol. Flying officers to advise the fliera will be established at the various stations. This upsets the original proposals regarding landing. There will be public receptions at Brisbane and Sydney. The warship Sydney left Darwin yesterday to patrol the airmen’s route between Darwin and Timor. Everything is prepared for the landing at Darwin in a 100-acre clearing near the beach.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SUCCESSFUL AIRMAN. STARTING FOR AUSTRALIA. LONDON, Dec. 4. _ Captain Howell, who has started in a Maninsyde aeroplane for Australia, is a native of Victoria. His official records show that during 2000 hours’ flying in war time in France and Italy, he destroyed 32 enemy machines, drove down 11 others, and shot down a number of baloons and kites. Wilkins’ Kangaroo engine gave trouble off Crete on the Bth. Ho returned to Suda Bay safely.
