BOY SCOUTS’ BENEFIT CONCERT. The benefit concert given in tie Good Templar Hall last night for, St. Mary s Scout Patrol, was unfortunate in clashing with the Diggers, but if it was not as°well attended as it would otherwise have been, it was greatly appreciated by those who were there. The stage was very prettily decorated and Mrs, Roper deseirves much credit for her efforts in that direction. The concert was of a miscellaneous character, and included songs by Miss E. Stone and Mr. B. Bellringer, duets by Mrs. E. Denton and Dalziell, elocution items by Mrs. Stuart Russell and Mr. Goldsworthy, flute solos by Mr. Northern, banjo solos by Mr. New, and humorous items by Messrs. Hewlett, New anti Booth. Tho humorous items were greatly enjoyed, and the whole programme was most enthusiastically received. Mr. A. Hewlett deserved great credit for the arranging of the programme. During an interval, Major F. W. Sandford presented to prizes to the boys of the patrol. He expressed the thanks of the boys to those who had arranged and carried out the programme and to the audience for their support. .He also read a letter from Mrs. E. A. Walker, who enclosed a donation of a guinea towards the funds, saying she had a soft corner in her heart for the scoi/s. j “They were so splendid during the war - , I and gave us so much help at the Red Cross,” she said. “I don’t know how we should have done without them and you.” The prizes were presented as follows: Patrol leader Wells (axe), Scouts Pankhurst, Wood, Howlett and A. Keating (knife and fork each), Scouts Patterson and Lindop (knife each), Corpora] Barnett, best scout (silver medal), Corporal Bowie'2nd (axe), Scout Wright 3rd (whistle). The takings from the concert are expected to amount to £ls exclusive of donations. The thanks of the Scouts arc due to Mr. Hoffmann, who kindly lent a piano. 1 ===== |
