WAITARA.

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. November 12.—The freezing works whistle at 11 o’clock yesterday morning gave a reminder of the two minutes cessation from work on the anniversary of the armistice. It was, I believe, generally observed. Within the main radius, of my vision I saw a car stop, a gig being driven by a lady halted in the road, and a number of pedestrians marked time where they happened to bn. X have heard of one amusing incident, where a townsman on hearing the whistle downed his tools, put on his coat aud went home to dinner under tho impression that it was the 12 o’clock whistle that had blown. The news that the Marakopa bad been wrecked at Mokau was received with something like dismay. Fortunately no lives are lost, but these little boats do good work along the coast in taking supplies to the districts north of Waitara which are difficult of access by any other means, particularly in the winter.
