A STRIKE AT BASLE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. BERNE, August 3. There is a general strike at Basle in favour of cheaper food and the requisitioning of empty houses and flats. NEW YORK, August 1. A message from Washington says it is estimated that 450,000 railroad shop workers went on strike following a demand upon the railroad administration for an increase in wages from 68 to 75 cents an hour. A VESSEL CAPSIZED. NEAV YORK, August 4. The British freighter Clan Gordon capsized 140 miles off Cape Hatteras. Four of the crew were drowned. BIOTS IN HONOLULU. NEAV YORK, August 4.
