VICTORY WAR LOAN.
THE COMPULSORY CLAUSES OF THE ACT. AUCKLAND, April 23. Referring to the last; war loan the Acting-Minister of Finance stated that all the amounts taken up by subscribers in connection with the £10,000,000 Victory War Loan would be taken into consideration in respect of the operation of the compulsory clauses of the Finance Act. He added : “As subscriptions arc now being received by the Treasury it is not considered necessary to fix a definite date for’the closing of the loan. There is a large amount of money available for investment, as the banking figures disclosed at the end of last quarter, and I anticipate a fairly large subscription being received by the Treasury this month.” “I want at the same time to stress the fact,” said the Minister, “that ■there must bo no doubt that those who ■do not discharge their duty by taking up the necessary amount proscribed by the Finance Act of last year will come under the compulsory clauses of the Act, which will certainly be put into operation for any who attempt to shirk their responsibility.”
