THE -POLICE ASSOCIATION.' Per Press Association.' WELLINGTON, June 30. Owing to the Ministerial refusal to recognise their association members of the Police Association have appealed direct to all Members of the House of Representatives for aid. They state that the objects of the association are not in any degree subversive of discipline, but rather the reverse. Constable Baker, one of the Auckland police who voiced a grievance to Mr. Herdman, has been transferred to Gisborne. He is appealing against his transfer. PLUMBERS’ REGISTRATION. WELLINGTON, June 29. The Plumbers’ Board decided upon a iasis of districts in which sanitary plumbing shall be done by registered plumbers, and-a draft is now being prepared as to methods of simplifying registration. It was decided that the minimum examination for qualification allowed by the Act, that of Grade 2 of the City and Guilds of London Institute be approved, and raised six months after the getting of the regulations, to that to be prescribed by the hoard’s (ran examination. The board is obtaining information regarding the standard of plumbing examinations in Sydney and Melbourne. The board also considered the need for granting permits, and of requiring registered plumbers to notify changes of address within 14 days. SHORTAGE OF LABOUR. CHRISTCHURCH, June 29. _ Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who has just .returned from Reefton, practically confirms Mr. Pryor’s statements regarding the shortage of labour in the Reefton district, and states that Mr. Lee, general secretary of the Big River and other companies, told him that at present every man capable of handling a pick and shovel is given employment at Reefton. , REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. GISBORNE, June 30. Harold Douglas Lockhart, who had ransacked a house and stolen 15s from a drawer, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.
