FOOTBALL.

(By “Rugger.”) At the meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union on Thursday, it was agreed to allow the- Bltham district to be joined to the Stratford district for tho present season. A proviso was however made that any senior players who were resident in Bltham, should play with the ICaponga Club. Footballers will all sympathise with tho Bltham Club, who have foupd it impossible to keep their senior team going this season, and their view of the case was evidently .taken by the executive of the union, wSen allowing their juniors to play under the auspices of the Stratford Club. Four clubs only, will enter senior Thursday teams in the northern division this year, viz., Tukapa, Stratford, Clifton, and Inglewood. Up to now very little practice has been indulged in, but in view of the early commencement of tho cup matches, clubs should get to work in earnest, for the first round begins on May 2—next Thursday week.

The junior competition on Thursdays, promises to be an interesting one, six teams being entered'’ as first juniors, and a similar number will complete in the second junior matches. During the season football notes dealing with the Saturday competition, will bo published on Monday’s issue of the Herald, and not held over for the Saturday issue, as has been the practice in former years. The usual Saturday notes, dealing wnh football generally, and with the Thursday matches in particular, will as usual appear on the “World of Sport” page on Saturdays. I have to thank the secretary of the Rovers Club for a complimentary ticket for the. season.

The Tukapa Club acknowledge the receipt of the following donations: Dr. Fookes £1 Is, Dr. Walker £1 Is, Mr. T. Bishop 10s 6d, Dr Leatham 10s od, Sir. A. Stanscll ss, Mr. D. Teed ss. Dr. Fookes and Mr. A. Stansell also gave trophies. Kaponga has decided that their club colours shall he red, white and blue. The reason of the change from Red and black, being that the Stratford Club is the registered owner of those colours, in which they have played for many years.
