SUICIDE AT WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, April 27. A man named R. H. Ashford, aged, 27, a recent arrival from the Old Country strangled himself in a bedroom tins afternoon. He first tied a handkerchief round bis neck, then passing a rope front a box over the mantelpiece, tied the end to the handkerchief, and threw himself forward. Deceased recently received news of the death of his wife, and had been melancholy. THE LONGBURN FATALITY. PALMERSTON N., April 19. The inquest concerning the death of Percy Field, the victim of the Longburn motor accident, was concluded this afternoon. The jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death as a result of a collision with a motor-car-driven by J. W. Milner, and that every reasonable precaution had been taken by the driver, no blame being attachable to anyone. RAILWAY FIREMAN INJURED. TAIHAPE, April 20. A railway fireman named A. V. Round was brought into the hospital suffering from a serious fracture of the skull. Ho was fixing a shovel at Che back of the tender in the vicinity of'the overhead bridge at Mat'aroa. About 5 a.m. the driver missed him and found him lying at the, back end of the tender. He is assumed to have been struck by the bridge. His condition is critical.
