THE DEFENCE MINISTER.

TAKES A FIRM STAND. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 11. A deputation representing the Peace Society and several labour organisations Availed bn Mr. Myers, Minister for Defence, and protested against the compulsory sections of the Defence Act, and declared that they would never \ rest until they were repealed. The .Minister repeated, his declaration of yesterday, that he would 'tye no party to tho law being broken, and said that everybody would be treated alike. The reason the Act was compulsory was that they believed it was tho duty of every individual to servo the State. A member of the deputation’ asked if the Minister Would be prepared, to amend the - Act so as to prevent force being used in industrial disputes. The Minister said he would not be in favour of that, because law and order must be maintained. The statement was received with ironical laughter. *
