A. BANQUET IN WELLINGTON. ’ Per Press Association.’ WELLINGTON, April 11. Tho delegates attending tho various conferences at present in progress here were entertained at a social last night. Alcssrs. Lanrenson, Hanan, Ell, AlacDonakl, Sir Joseph Ward and R. |> APKenzie were present. Air. R. Al'Eenzie predicted that if the Labour Party went about its work systematically they would have the control of Parliament for the next forty years. He believed they would have another election before September. Air. Hanan said tho people of this country would have to be up and doing if. they wore to keep pace with other countries. Education must be free from the primary schools to the university, 1 As Mr. Hanan:concluded his speech, Air. Hindmarsh, 31. P., rose and said, “I refused to attend a Liberal caucus the other day, and I hope you will allow me to retire from this meeting.” He then left tho room. Responding to the toast of “The Press,” Professor Alilis repudiated the possibility of a Liberai-Labour Party. By the unity proposals they had brought 60,000 unionists together, and there wero 15,000 more •workers they were going to bring into the United Labour Party, and then they could send to Parliament a party which w'ould do what they wanted. AFTER THE SOCIAL. WELLINGTON, April 11. As a sequel to last night’s Labour social several . delegates at the New Zealand Labour Party’s conference today took exception to tho arrangements for issuing invitations and drawing up the toast list. Included in the latter were several Alinisters of the Crown, and the delegates to-day strongly emphasised the absolute independence of the Labour Party. A resolution- was passed regretting the occurrence of last night and the unfortunate position in, ...„■ which delegates were unwittingly placed.
