CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

GENERAL LABOURERS’ DISPUTE. A sitting of the Conciliation Court was held at New Plymouth to-day to hear the dispute relating to the General Labourers’ Union. Mr. T. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner for the Northern and Taranaki Industrial District, presided, and tho assessors were: For tho union, Messrs. M. J. Reardon and E. Kennedy, of Wellington, and G. E. Roper, of Now Plymouth; and for the employers, Messrs. W. F. Brooking, Jus. Clarke, and F. Grayling, all of ,New Plymouth. Mr. Grenfell, assistant secretary of the Employers’ Association, Wellington, appeared for the employers. The Commissioner expressed the hope that the partjes to the dispute had met in the true spirit of conciliation, that they wbre out lor a settlement, and with the intention of conducting tho proceedings \tithout any unkindly feeling, and that there was an earnest desire on tho part of the union and the employers, if possible, to come to a mutual understanding, which must, as a matter of course, result in bettor work being done by the employee, and thereby the employer would benefit. In reply to the Commissioner, tho assessors explained that they had full power to act for the parties concerned. (Left Sitting.)
