There was only a small attendance at the meeting called by the Mayor for 2 p.rh. to-day to consider the question of the Seaside Picnic at Mcturoa for Now Tear’s Day. At the request of several business people who could not attend at such an hour, it was decided to adjourn the meeting until Friday evening next, at 8 o’clock, when a full attendance is requested. An electrically-driven machine for scrubbing and polishing wood and other floors has been introduced in America. There have been many contrivances devised from time to time for the purpose of renovating floors by machinery, and this device seems to he one of the most efficacious. This machine weighs less than 501 b., and can be attached to any electric light fixture. It is extremely simple in construction. All the working parts are packed in grease and enclosed within a both dust and water proof case. There are no belts, no chains, no moving parts exposed to break furniture, damage woodwork, or maim the operator. Owing to peculiarity of construction it will scrub the inequalities of the floor as well as the high places. It is under absolute control at all times. For ordinary scrubbing of wood, marble, or composition floors, a stiff scrubbing brush is 'attached by a clamp to the revolving disc; a bucket of hot water containing soap powder is poured into the tank. The water is fed through a hose.into a* tube, which sprays it on the revolving brush. The handle is kept slightly below the working position, jdlowing the entire weight of the machine to rest on its castors. This machine is also a great labour-saving device for removing varnish, paint, g-tain, etc., by the use of a steel brush and chemicals, and any unsightly flopr can be cleaned down to the white wood, then sand-papered smooth for finishing, and finally waxed and polished. All of these operations may be accomplished with the same machine by ap-. plying the different brushes or discs. Householders should not fail to attend Nolan and Go’s, sale at the EgEont Store to-morrow, when the whole of Air. White’s stock of groceries will bo sold. The sale commences at 2 o’clock, and the whole will bo sold without reserve. Heard, on Devon Street, Saturday night. “Merry Xmas, Bill! Where did you get that ring?” “Why, at Skeates’, opposite the Royal Pictures.*
