ROYAL PICTURES AND ORCHESTRA. A splendid house assembled «t the Theatre Royal last night to witness a repetition of Saturday’s delightful programme by the Royal Pictures. "La Tosca” and "Our Navy” were again the most favoured pictures of the evening. “Our Xavy w is undoubtedly the most instructive picture yet shown here, and although it takes a little over one hour to he run off, there is not a wearisome moment in the whole of that time. The cornet solo again rendered last night by Mr. Richards is well worthy of mention. To-night, in addition to “Our Navy,” a complete change of pictures will be screened, including “Two Roads,” a dramatic romance by Leon Hennique, with Mdlie Mistinguett in the principal part. As the title implies, two roads are travelled. There are two sisters, one who marries an honest shopkeeper, and" the other who prefers a lifo of ease. Ths latter falls m love with a who makes a living as a wrestler. From ibis to a life of crime was in this case ftn easy path, and finally the wrestler breaks into the house of the happilymarried sister. Rose (the wrestler’s sweetheart) implores her sister’s pardon, and promises for the future not to stray from the righteous road. THE EMPIRE THEATRE. Next ‘ Saturday marks a distinct event in the progress of New Plymouth bv the opening of tho new Picture Theatre. For the opening day (Christmas Eve) the system of running will he on tho same lines ns the M‘Mahon’s theatres (Wellington and Auckland) and Fuller’s Palace Theatre (Auckland), viz., a continuous, or better called an “All Day Show.” By this method of showing people need not hurry to the theatre at any particular time, the pictures are going Hi rough the projecting machine all through the day, there only being about three minutes’ interval every seventy-five minutes to allow the rewinding of the films. During tho afternoon anil evening of Christmas Eve the public will have the unique opportunity of dropping into the Empire Theatre at the admission rates of 6d for adults and 3d for children, and yet see tho full programme whatever time they arrive.
