Captain Scott, when speaking on the subject of Captain Amuiukscn’s proposed Antarctic expedition, was asked if ho considered it was trenching on his territory. He ropiied; “Not at all. It seems quite clear to me that he intends to attack the problem from the other side of the world. Anybody is free to do that. The only possible breach of etiquette on such occasions is if a man were deliberately to go to a spot that one had previously publicly selected as one’s own base.” Captain Scott says that Dr. Bruce’s expedition cannot roach the Antarctic till next year. The doctor has had difficulty in raising funds, and it is quite on the cards lie may not succeed. The German oxiiedition also will not reach the Antarctic till next year. Notwithstanding uh, I has boon announced of its modest aims and intentions to restrict itself to purely exploratory and scientific objects, Captain Scott has little doubt they really mean to try for the Pole.
