STRATFORD.

) (From Oor Resident Agent.) Feb. 18.—Most institutions have their alternating periods of progress and stagnation, success and non-success, but our District High Sohopl seems to ho an exception to the rule. So far its career has been an unbroken series of successes and a record of growing prosperity and usefulness. At tho recent senior civil service examinations boys trained here have done remarkably well, four getting full passes and one a partial. New Plymouth passed .three, Wanganui two, and Palmerston North one. One of our boys, Eric Wyllio, •passed with credit in the whole of the subjects. I cannot help thinking that tho school’s success is due in great measure to tho bracing and invigorating air, which stimulates teachers and pupils alike. Lassitude, even in an exceptionally hot and humid summer like tliis, is a rare complaint hero. Neither our 1 bracing atmosphere' nor hard condition,; enabled our champion wrestler, Mr. R. J. Scott, to make any show against the wonderful Russian. Perhaps if Mr. Hackenschmidt would consent' to try a fall on the top of Mount Egmont, the bout to start immediately on arrival at the summit and within three hours of leaving the mountain house, our man might have af hope. I have known some brawny specimens of manhood to become shorn Samsons on the upper slopes. Everyone will bo sorry to hear of the very'serious accident that happened today to the well-known contractor, Mr. R. H. Cameron. Full particulars are not yet available, but it is feared that amputation of the leg is unavoidable.
