Mayne and Armstrong have carried the score to 118 and both are.still batting strongly. The wicket, which had been rolled overnight turned out very easy. There was no sting .in it whatever and the batsmen held the upper hand. Armstrong accompanied Mayne to the wickets, Relf and Olliff opening the bowling. R-trns came freely from hoth'batsmen but before Armstrong reached double figures he gave Sale an easy chance off Olliff, which Sale dropped. Later he gave an unaccepted chance off Relf to Howden. With the century up Howden and Taylor went on to bowl. This steadied run-getting a little, the runs mostly coming in singles. Mayne played faultless cricket, keeping the ball on the ground all tho while. At one o’clock the score was 150 for the loss of three wickets—Armstrong (in) 38, Mayne (in) 72, sundries 9. , Armstrong and Mayne batted till just before luncheon adjournment, when Olliff got one past Armstrong., who between his three chances batted forcefully. Mayno, not out 99 Extras 9 Total for four wickets 187 After lunch Kelleway partnered Mayne, who topped the century with a two off Relf.
