A YOUNG WOMAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. 'Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 18. At the Police Court Martha Basan, an attractive young woman, was charged with a series of .thefts from private houses, hotels, and private hotels of goods of the total value of over £54. ; Three of the thefts were committed at Woods’ Hotel, the Coffee Palace, and the City Hotel. Watches, bracelets, . rings, blouses, and petticoats all served . her turn. She actually slept in one -private house in the absence of the occupants on holiday, and was caught there by a young son of \ the owner. There were eight such charges against her, and she pleaded i guilty to all, and 1 was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. When arrested she was wearing some of the stolen jewellery. Other articles she had pawned. Another charge of theft is pending against the accused.
