AUSTRALIA v. AUCKLAND. NORTHERNERS MAKE 112. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 18. The match between the _ Australian and Auckland representative cricket elevens was commenced to-day in fine but dull weather. A few drops of rain fell at one period of the afternoon. Tho rain of overnight had deadened tho wicket, and when Armstrong, tho Australian captain, won tho toss, ho decided to send tho Auckland team in to bat. The wicket was sticky, and Whitty got to work in real earnest, having an average of eight wickets for 27 runs when the innings closed. Relf made 51 by risky methods, giving several chances. Hadden was the next best in point of numbers, making 17. The wicket was improving when the Australians wont in to bat. Bardslcy ■was caught and bowled by Relf before scoring. Mayne (32 not out) and Simpson (30) made most of the runs, the Australian score when stumps were drawn being 72 for three wickets. Oiliff took two wickets for 10 funs.
