They, will have the assistance of Addison, a Canterbury representative bowler, who is now resident in Wanganui. There was a representative gathering of the Railway and the United Service Cricket Club at the railway social room on Saturday evening. The object of the gathering was to bid farewell to Mr. C. Simmons, ..coaching foreman at tho local railway station, on his departure for Palmerston North. Mr. S. G. Smith occupied tho chair, and Mr. Mackay the vice-chair; Mr. Smith paid a graceful tribute to tho many good qualities of Mr. Simmons and Mrs. Simmons, and expressed the general regret of tho staff that tho time had come for them to leave Now Plymouth. Mr. W. W. Thomson then made a presentation of a silver teapot and sugar basin, and in an appropriate speech referred to the many kindly acts of Mr. Simmons during his sojourn here, extending ovet a period of seven years. Messrs. Maxwell, Mancler, White, Treeby, Morrison, W. J. Thomson, and Donohue all testified Mo the popularity of Mr. Simmons, Mr. Mac’kay, on behalf of tho Cricket Club, presented Mr. Simmons with a leather tourist’s companion. He expressed regret that, tho club was losing the services of Mr. Simmons. Ho had been captain of the B team since tho inception of the club, and was ono o'f the promoters. Messrs. Preshaw, Wiggs, and Bollinger also maclo a few brief remarks. Mr. Simmons, in reply, thanked the members for their kindly expressions of goodwill, and said ho would always look back on his stay in "Now Plymouth as one of the happiest periods of his life. During tho evening harmony was contributed by Messrs. Sommorville, Branson, Holmes, Freeby, Preshaw, Thomson, and Wiggs. Mr. Weller presided at the piano. A pleasant gathering terminated with cheers for Mr. and Sirs, Simmon's.
