A DEMENTED MAN. Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, Feb. 14. The body of a nogro named George Ward, who was last 'Soon in the bed of the River Ohutu on Wednesday fighting at the water and shouting -viklly, was recovered yesterday a short distance from whore deceased was lastseen. At an inquest to-day a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. The body had to be hauled up a cliff over 100’ feet high. A PECULIAR CASE. A peculiar case was reported to tho police this morning from Barrett Street. Francis Ovenden,-48 years of ago, was discovered by his wife about 7 o’clock in an unconscious state in a shed near the house in Barrett Street. Hanging from a rafter of the shed was a piece of "broken flax, by which it is alleged Ovenden had evidently attempted to take his life. Ovendon had been suffering with a poisoned leg for some time, and was under medical treatment. Ho had been advised to go into the hospital, but declined. This morning ho was to bo taken there, and this, it is thought, preyed on his mind. Ovenden was removed to the hospital, and this afternoon was still in a semi-unconscious state, and suffering from partial strangulation;*
