SABBATH DESECRATION.

(To tho Editor.) Sir.—Kindly grant me a little space to make my protest against tho desecration of tho Lord’s Day by the training of racehorses on tho New Plymouth Borough Racecourse on Sunday morning. As a resident in the immediate vicinity and the father of a family of young children, I do not like to see horse racing, grass cutting, and similar operations going on in a municipal reserve on tho Christian Sabbath. Some time ago I interviewed members of the committee of the Jockey Club about these matters and they willingly promised that there should be no further cause for complaint. However, yesterday the training of horses was,,goiiig on again and I am told that it was with the authority of the club or its officials. . I beg to point out that the rights of the Jockey Club are strictly limited by the Act and I would now ask the borough council (as trustees for thei whole of the inhabitants of this borough) to give a little more attention to its duties under tho Act and prevent what is a cause of offence to many of l the people.—l am, etc.. F. P. CORKILL.
