CRUELTY TO COWS.

A MAORI IMPRISONED. Per Press Association. , GISBORNE, Fob. 14. , A Maori at Waipiro was sentenced to throe months’ imprisonment for torturing a cow. ’ Accused had been employed to milk cows for a settler, but was discharged on account of his dirty habits." Shortly afterwards tho settler Ir.und three cows sick and subsequently obtained an admission from tho Maori that he had put match-heads up tho cows’ teats by way of revenge, with the result that one cow died. Two cows are still in a very bad way.
