PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Fob. 9.—The monthly mooting of tho Parihaka Road Board took place today, the only members present wero Messrs. Young (chairman), Harvey and Willcox. Mr. Willcox said ho would not move the motion of which ho had given notice re the working staff, owing to tho absence of some members. Ho was annoyed at their non attendance and would hold off till next meeting. Mr, Lysaght wrote for culvert and road repairs on Upper Parihaka Road. After looking up the road accounts tho board decided there were no funds. Tho foreman reported that he had inspected the piece of Pungarohu Road Complained of by Messrs. Moffitt and Goodwin and > recommended that tho Work be done. It was resolved that tho foreman should do the work and that it should not exceed £45.

Mr. Cross offered Is per chain towards the cost of clearing a drain along his frontage. Tho financial position of the road will not permit of the work being done at present. Tho board agreed to allow Mr. Fleming half tho cost of clearing a drain on Cape Road. Mr. Alexander’s manager having asked for some work on the Bayly Road, the foreman reported favourable and tho board decided that the staff should do 12 chains when time permitted.

Mr. Aylwarcl asked to have a drain cleaned on Burgess Road. Tho foreman was instructed to inspect tho locality and do work if it was required.

Mr. Jones drew attention to the condition of tho Warea Road Bridge. Tho foreman said ho had inspected it and found that it was not really dangerous.

Mr. M'Neil asked the board to clear a drain on Opua Road and offered to pay half the cost. The hoard concluded it could not do it at present. The following tenders were received for contract 71, Arawhata Hoad metalling: Magon £5 2s Gd per chain, Maofie £4 los, Wells £4 16s, Hill and Young £4, Rothory £5 12s, Taylor £4 4s. Estimate £4. No. 72, Opua Koad metalling; Magon £4 2s Gd, V ells £2 10s, Rothery £4 7s, Taylor £2 9s. Estimate £2 16s.

Tho lowest tender for each contract was accepted. Messrs. Hughson, Groom and Fielder waited on the board to ask for the deepening of a drain along Gregory Road near the Masonic Hall to clear the water from their property. The foreman was directed to inspect the locality and to report on the matter. The board voted the clerk £lO additional salary in recognition of his services and extra work in connection with raising loans. Tho foreman and Mr. Willcox were directed to inspect Rahotu Road and Lower Jvakui Road and report to the next meeting. It was decided to call tenders to ho in to the next meeting for another contract on the Kaweora Hoad deviation. Tho Treasury advised that the Ncwall Road 10 por cent, loan had been paid to tho hoard’s credit^ Accounts amounting to £253 were passed for payment.
