(From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 9.—Tbo AVarea annual school picnic is to be held on Thursday, 17th inst. Tho members of the school committee, assisted by tho ladies, are all working hard to make tho outing a success. Subscription and refreshment lists have boon circulated in the district, and have boon liberally subscribed to. The dinner and tho tea are to bo hold in tho hail, and tho running and tho gamos will bo got off in tho paddock near tbo hall. A concert and dance is to be held in tho evening. I hear that tho New,’ill Rond school committee intends holding its picnic on February 25. Mr. A. Jackush met with a rather painful accident on Monday last. Ho was jammed between a post and his milk cart. Luckily no hones were broken, but he will be indisposed for several days. Mr. Chas. Wells has disposed of his farm on tho Ruakore Road to Mr. Sutton, who has taken up his residence here. Mrs. Loedom, one of tho oldest residents in AVnrca, who disposed of her farm to Mr. IV. Revoll, sold her household effects, etc., on Tuesday, February 1. She loaves for Havelock North at an early date, having bought property over there. The AYarea Rifle Club commenced shooting again on Saturday last. Tho weather was beautifully fine, hut was a little too bright for some shootists. Tho following are the scores;—

'the shooting continues ' every fortnight for the Grayling trophy (a set of carvers) and the Mills trophy (30s) for the best aggregate for the year. One of onr local shots, Mr. F. Jenkins, intends competing at the Taranaki rifle meeting, and then going on to Trentham. May he return with the Ballinger Belt.
